Who We Are
The Oceanside Homeless Task Force is a community-based coordination table focused on homelessness, housing instability, service gaps, and practical local response across the Oceanside region.
The Task Force brings together representatives from service organizations, health and housing systems, municipal and provincial partners, outreach workers, community advocates, faith-based and non-profit partners, and people connected to frontline community work. The purpose is to create a shared space where information can be brought forward, gaps can be identified, and realistic solutions can be moved ahead with transparency and accountability.
Oceanside continues to face complex challenges around homelessness, poverty, mental health, substance use, housing affordability, emergency shelter access, transportation barriers, and limited local services. No single organization or level of government can respond to these issues alone. The Task Force exists to strengthen communication between sectors, reduce duplication, support coordinated planning, and help ensure that community concerns and lived realities are brought to the same table.
The Oceanside Homeless Task Force is not a direct-service agency on its own. Instead, it acts as a coordinating body that helps connect the people, organizations, and systems already working in the region. Through regular meetings, shared updates, advocacy, working groups, and community partnerships, the Task Force works to support practical, local responses that reflect the needs of Oceanside residents.
At its core, the Task Force is grounded in dignity, collaboration, public transparency, and community responsibility. The goal is to move beyond isolated conversations and toward coordinated action that supports people experiencing homelessness, strengthens service pathways, and helps the broader community better understand what is happening on the ground.
Background
The Oceanside Homeless Task Force was formed in response to the growing need for a coordinated local approach to homelessness and housing instability across the Oceanside region.
For many years, Oceanside has faced significant service gaps compared to larger communities. These gaps include limited local shelter options, limited after-hours and weekend supports, transportation barriers, pressure on outreach and emergency services, lack of year-round low-barrier access points, and ongoing challenges for people trying to access housing, health care, income supports, food security, and basic needs.
Community members, frontline workers, service providers, municipal partners, and advocates have continued to identify the same concern: Oceanside needs a more connected way to respond. People experiencing homelessness and housing instability often move between multiple systems, but those systems have not always had one consistent table where local information, concerns, and solutions can be shared.
The Task Force was created to help close that coordination gap. It brings together people and organizations with different roles, responsibilities, and perspectives so that local needs can be better understood and practical action can move forward.
The work of the Task Force continues to be shaped by the realities seen across Oceanside: seniors without secure housing, people living outdoors or in vehicles, workers and families facing affordability pressures, people navigating health and substance-use challenges, people leaving systems without stable housing, and community members trying to understand how best to help.
The Task Force recognizes that homelessness is not one issue with one solution. It requires housing, health, income, outreach, prevention, emergency response, community education, and long-term planning. The Task Force exists to support that coordination and help Oceanside move toward a stronger, more informed, and more compassionate local response.
What We Do
The Oceanside Homeless Task Force brings the right people to the same table so that local concerns, service gaps, and practical solutions can be discussed in one coordinated space.
The Task Force includes representatives from community organizations, municipal government, provincial systems, health and housing services, outreach, public health, faith-based partners, advocacy groups, and people connected to lived and living experience. Each member brings knowledge from their own sector, while also contributing to the shared goal of improving the local response to homelessness and housing instability.
The Task Force operates through regular meetings, information sharing, action items, working groups, partner updates, and follow-up between meetings. Members identify emerging needs, discuss service gaps, share community-level updates, and work together to move practical ideas forward.
On the ground, this work may include supporting shelter planning conversations, strengthening referral pathways, improving communication between service providers, identifying funding opportunities, sharing updates from frontline work, reviewing community concerns, supporting public education, and advocating for services that better match the needs of Oceanside.
Working groups may be formed around specific priorities when more focused planning is needed — areas such as seasonal shelter response, community engagement, service navigation, public education, funding opportunities, housing-related advocacy, or specific partner-led initiatives.
The Task Force does not replace the role of service providers, government, health authorities, housing agencies, or community organizations. Instead, it helps connect those efforts so that work is not happening in isolation. The goal is to strengthen collaboration, improve transparency, and support practical action that reflects the reality of homelessness and housing instability in Oceanside.

The Oceanside Homeless Task Force supports and connects community work, partner-led initiatives, pilot project planning, working groups, and coordinated advocacy efforts across the Oceanside region.
The Task Force recognizes that much of the work happening in Oceanside is carried by individual organizations, frontline workers, volunteers, faith communities, service providers, local government partners, health and housing systems, and people with lived and living experience. This section is intended to show how those efforts connect, where collaboration is happening, and what practical work is being supported through the Task Force table.
As initiatives move forward, this section will include updates on working groups, pilot projects, community events, public education efforts, coordinated advocacy, partner programs, and local service-response planning.

The Task Force values cross-sector participation and recognizes that homelessness and housing instability cannot be addressed by one organization alone. Member details may be updated as participation shifts and roles are confirmed.
